AKWESASNE, N.Y. (WWNY) - The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe has received $1.3 million from the federal government to help combat crime and help crime victims.
The Department of Justice announced the award Friday. It’s part of over $273.4 million awarded to American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
DOJ officials say the grants are designed to improve public safety, serve victims of crime, combat violence against women, and support youth programs.
